HOW TO INCORPORATE FOODS THAT REDUCE ANXIETY AND STRESS

As an entrepreneur and business owner there are times you may become overwhelmed with all the work that you need to do. This leads to anxiety, stress and brain fog. One way to help you stay healthy and lower your levels of anxiety is to incorporate foods that reduce anxiety in your diet.

You don’t have to let brain fog and overwhelm become your normal way of life.

All the advances in technology and software are great for entrepreneurs. But sometimes focusing on so much learning, and trying to implement everything can cause overwhelm and brain fog. There’s also all the advertisements thrown at you day after day and too much social media scrolling can add stress to your brain.

Trying to do it all as an entrepreneur is especially overwhelming and stressful. But you can still feel on top of your game by adding certain foods that boost your brain function.

Mental Fatigue

Mental fatigue is caused from the accumulation of a brain chemical called ‘adenosine’.

This can be the result of long term stress and sustained cognitive activity. This burns up glucose in certain regions of your brain and triggers a rise in ‘adenosine levels’ which blocks the release of dopamine. The result is the feeling of no motivation and experiencing mental fatigue.

You may experience this as an entrepreneur who is trying to do everything and get through your to-do list that never ends. Maybe you’ve even given up too many things you used to enjoy in order to stay focused on your projects for work.

Mental fatigue is the result of brain over-activity. It’s when you expend too much effort on a project or task. You may be someone who spends long hours being laser-focused on a task for days.

Taking a break and resting is an important step to take to eliminate mental fatigue. But it’s also important to do other things to support your brain and reduce anxiety and stress.

Food Can Help You Up Your Game

By making smart food choices you can improve your brain function. If you feel especially sluggish a few hours after a meal, it could be that your blood sugar level is affected by what you eat. It may be that you’re eating too many refined carbohydrates like breads and other baked goods.

This spikes your insulin and then releases cortisol which causes low blood sugar causing you to feel tired and foggy. Replace refined carbs with complex carbs and eat protein at every meal.

The healthiest foods contain an excellent source of fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and antioxidant compounds like Vitamin E and A.

There are certain foods called superfoods that are known to boost productivity and brain power. Enjoy these foods that reduce anxiety and stress every day.

Here Are Some Of Those Magic Superfoods To Supercharge Our Brains.

BLUEBERRIES

Blueberries can be eaten throughout your working day as a nice snack. And while you’re snacking and enjoying them, the blueberries will improve your brain function and short term memory.

As an added bonus, blueberries help to shield your brain from stress, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

A diet rich in blueberries has also shown that it  improves learning capacity and motor skills.

AVOCADOS

Avocados are a unique fruit. Most fruits are high in carbohydrates, but avocados are high in healthy fats. Numerous studies show that avocados have powerful health benefits.

Some of the nutrients in avocados include folate, Vitamin C, Potassium (more than in bananas), Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Vitamin E, and small amounts of magnesium, manganese, copper, iron, zinc and more. Fiber is another nutrient that avocados have.

They don’t contain any cholesterol, saturated fat, or sodium which make them extremely good for heart health too.

NUTS AND SEEDS

Nuts and seeds are popular foods. They are super tasty and have loads of health benefits.

They contain several minerals and are a good source of vitamin E. Vitamin E is important for your brain as it will stave off declining cognitive functions.

Some good choices are cashews, walnuts, peanuts, almonds and sunflower and sesame seeds.

Nuts are also antioxidant powerhouses. They protect your cells from free radicals.

HEMP HEARTS

Hemp hearts, also known as hemp seeds, are full of protein, healthy fats, amino acids, vitamin E and minerals.

Use them sprinkled in salads, cereals, smoothies and other favorite dishes.

Hemp hearts promote a healthy heart and improved blood flow. Your brain will thrive because of the excellent oxygen and nutrients delivered in your bloodstream.

COMPLEX CARBOHYDRATES

As mentioned earlier try to avoid refined carbohydrates and sugars which spike your blood sugar and leave you feeling tired and sluggish.

Complex carbohydrates supply your brain with a steady stream of glucose which enhances brain function instead of making your feel tired.

They are found in peas, beans, whole grains and vegetables. They provide vitamins, minerals and fiber that are important for your overall health.

KEFIR

Kefir is a fermented drink made from dairy or goat’s milk. It contains gut friendly probiotics as well as protein, calcium, Vitamin K2, and B vitamins. It can also be made from non-dairy substitutes.

Certain probiotics in kefir are believed to protect against infections and the growth of harmful bacteria.

Kefir can boost your immune system, aid in digestion problems, and improve bone health. It is an excellent food for your overall health and energy.

BLACK TEA

Black tea contains polyphenols which are rich in antioxidants. They help block toxic chemicals from entering your body.

Black tea helps you relax and concentrate better. It enhances blood flow to the brain.

It contains a lower amount of caffeine compared to coffee. But if you drink over 4 or 5 cups it can still be overstimulating.

Black tea can help improve the use of insulin and reduce blood sugar. But you have to drink it without any sugar for it to be effective!. It contains caffeine and the amino acid called L-theanine which improves alertness and focus.

L-theanine increases alpha activity in the brain. This results in giving you better focus and also aids in keeping you relaxed.

DARK CHOCOLATE

Dark chocolate has some very impressive health benefits. It contains powerful antioxidant properties and several natural stimulants which enhance focus and concentration.

The flavonoids in cocoa improve blood flow to the brain. This improves your focus, memory, and learning. It also prevents mental decline as you grow older.

Dark chocolate encourages the production of endorphins which help to improve your mood. But once again, only eat it in moderation. Don’t overdo a good thing!

Enjoy these foods that reduce anxiety and stress and build up your immune system while at the same time improving your brain power and productivity. Bring these foods to work with you and keep yourself feeling awake and energized throughout the day.
