There is so much talk about “boosting your immune system” once holiday, flu and cold season hits that I thought it important to share a few quick ways the immune system does this and what the immune system is actually made up of!

The human body is made up of important organ systems and they work together to maintain a healthy, functioning body.

Today specifically we are going to look at the Immune System: how it works and how to boost it this holiday season.

Immune System: uses a variety of cells, tissues and organs which are shared by other systems to protect our body from environmental threats.

Barrier 1: Skin + Mucous Membranes

One example of this is how the immune system utilizes the mucous membranes (wet surfaces lining the nose, mouth and throat) to trap threats that try to enter the body.

Barrier 2: White Blood Cells (for when threats are not stopped by barrier 1)

These cells fight invaders and mark them as harmful so that in the future they can come to an even faster defense against them.

White blood cells are made and stored in a variety of places inside the body, such as the tonsils, thymus, lymph nodes, bone marrow, and spleen.

Your immune system keeps your body healthy by protecting against environmental and seasonal threats that try to invade your body. The world is full of these invaders, so it’s a battle that is constantly going on.

Today I want to share 6 simple ways to boost your immune system this holiday season so you can stay healthy and start 2019 off with a bang!

  1. Keep Your Hands Clean
    • Washing your hands before eating limits the number of invaders that get into your system, thus minimizing the number of environmental threats that your immune system needs to fight.
